Boletus aestivalis Fr. syn. B. reticulatus Boud. Sommer-Steinpilz Cèpe réticulé Cap 7–20cm, pale straw-colour to pale snuff-brown, dry, soon becoming rough and cracking into small scales, particularly at centre. Stem 60–150 x 20–50mm, robust, covered in a dense white network. Flesh white throughout, sometimes with slight yellowish tinges. Smell and taste strong but pleasant. Tubes white then greenish-yellow. Pores small, round, similarly coloured. Spore print olivaceous snuff-brown. Spores subfusiform, 13–15 x 4.5–5.5µ. Habitat with beech and oak. Season early summer to autumn. Rare. Edible – excellent. Distribution, Europe.
